Sir John Guise Stadium
Acrow and Peddle Thorp
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
The Sir John Guise Stadium was completed for the 2015 Pacific Games held in Port Moresby. Over 3,000 athletes from 22 Pacific Nations took part in 28 sports and disciplines. The redevelopment of the Sir John Guise Stadium saw the existing facility upgraded to meet the International Association of Athletics Federations’ standards for international track and field competitions.
Calibre, in collaboration with architects Peddle Thorp, designed the demountable stands which provide seating for approximately 12,000 spectators and will be in place for 15 years. The unique curved stand sits on a sloping site, which was one of many design challenges the team had to overcome. The superstructure was completed within five weeks with very few issues, except difficult weather.
