Providing essential infrastructure and connection
As part of the Brockman Syncline 4, Phase 1 Project, Calibre QuadR was engaged as the engineering, procurement and construction management consultant to deliver the Brockman 4 Railway Project.
This involved the construction of 41km of standard gauge, heavy haul railway from the existing Brockman 2 mine to the new development at Brockman 4.
The train axle loads are 36t with speeds of up to 80km per hour. The track utilises new concrete sleepers and a new head-hardened rail.
Further deliverables for this project included a rail tunnel south of the existing Brockman 2 load-out and the construction of a new siding and a series of drainage upgrades on the existing Rosella-Brockman 2 railway (originally built in 1991).
A new fibre optic backbone to support a rail signalling system was also designed, installed and commissioned to slot into the existing Rio Tinto voice and data communications system.
