Altona North Library

Haskell Architects and Places Victoria

Altona North, Victoria, Australia

Altona North Library, a single-storey building designed with sustainability in mind, has become an asset to the local community. The library features maximum natural light, solar heating provided through brick thermal walls and solar lighting.

This new library incorporates ‘loud’ areas at one end of the library and ‘quiet’ areas at the other. A computer room with 16 computers and drop-down screens can be used during children’s activities and has become a popular fixture during school holidays.

Calibre Consulting provided design and documentation for the building which incorporates raft slab, precast concrete panels and structural steel roof framing.
