Gudai-Darri Rail Project wins Heavy Haul and Rail Freight Excellence Award

Congratulations to Rio Tinto for taking home the ‘Heavy Haul and Rail Freight Excellence Award’ for the Gudai-Darri Rail Project at this year’s Australasian Rail Industry Awards.

The Gudai-Darri Rail Project delivered a new 178km rail spur and is Rio Tinto’s first new rail line since the commissioning of their autonomous rail operations. The project was delivered during the pandemic while maintaining an exceptional safety record, with the first train running on the line in December 2021.

Calibre was involved in the delivery of critical elements including the tie into the mainline, bridges, earthworks, track, civil, signalling, communications, and ensuring the new section of track supported the AutoHaul™ expansion and autonomous operation.
