Burkes Drain Flood Pump Station

Horizons Regional Council commissioned this vertical draught tube pump station to relieve the periodic flooding of low-lying farmland in this region of Manawatu.
Collaboration through a design and build contract was essential to the success of this project. Our team was engaged at an early stage to work closely with the client, along with geotechnical, electrical and mechanical consultants.
We carried out the structural, civil and hydraulic design to deliver the pump station, inlet structure, twin 1,350dia pipe culvert through the river stopbank, outlet structure, earthworks and access road.
The reinforced concrete pump station comprises a 10m wide inlet chamber varying from 4m to 6m in depth, four low lift pumps with a combined capacity of 7,500L per second and a 10m x 5m x 5m surge chamber at the upstream end of the outlet culvert.
