Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Sporting Facility Upgrade
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School
Bunbury, Western Australia, Australia
Developed as part of Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School's Master Plan for building developments, the Tony Brooker Sports Pavilion Sporting Facility is now a major asset to the school. It includes a multipurpose sports pavilion and an oval catering for two hockey grounds, as well as a Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) standard grass central cricket pitch that will be used for both school and first-grade cricket matches. The works interfaced with a new multipurpose stadium to serve both new and existing ovals.
Calibre provided design and supervision of the new oval, drainage, and associated service infrastructure. Vast earthworks were needed to develop the oval surfaces and also made it possible to incorporate terraced areas alongside the grounds to enhance spectator amenities. During the earthworks phase our design ensured cut-to-fill was maximised on-site to minimise the amount of fill imported through the school.
The project required close liaison with the school, traffic consultants and the architect to produce designs meeting multiple stakeholder requirements. A high priority was to minimise disruption to staff and students while works were underway. In addition, the project required clearing of sensitive bush land area that was habitat for local possums. On-site fauna monitors ensured that the possums were not harmed during clearing and that they were safely relocated to new habitats.
All works were completed within budget and to strict deadlines, enabling timely commencement of the subsequent building project.
